- Tell us a little bit about your organisation and the services you provide?
EDAMH provides support to people affected by mental ill health and/or who have experienced a domestic abuse situation in their life. They are supported to lead the life they want to live through one to one and group support, to pursue their recovery of improved mental health and wellbeing. This is achieved through developing recovery plans with the common aims of reducing isolation, restoring confidence, motivation, self-esteem and building emotional resilience. We adopt a strength and assets-based approach to support individuals pursuing their recovery shaped by their hopes and needs.
- Who are the key groups or individuals your organisation supports?
EDAMH supports adults aged 18 and over, living in East Dunbartonshire who are experiencing mental health issues and/or have experienced a domestic abuse situation in their life.
- What is one thing you wish more people knew about the work that you do?
The ongoing challenge that we face as an organisation is making as many people as possible aware of the services that we offer. We regularly promote the service using different methods, however we still meet people who say they have struggled with their mental health for years and have only recently heard of EDAMH. We want everyone in East Dunbartonshire who needs support with their mental health to know how to find us.
- What do you think is the biggest difference your organisation makes?
Individuals we have supported have told us that:
“EDAMH are a life saver, I don’t think I would still be here if it wasn’t for their support”
“The service has helped me to get my life back, I am more confident now to achieve the goals in life that I had been putting off”
“The support I have had has helped me understand my mental health issues and the tools and techniques I have been provided with have had a hugely positive impact on my day-to-day life.”
- What are some of the challenges you face?
Our main challenge is being able to offer support to all individuals who refer to our services as quickly as possible. Due to being a small local charity with 8 staff members our capacity is limited, we currently have a waiting list and individuals wait around 2/3months before their support begins. We would like to have increased funding to employ more staff members to meet the current demand for mental health support.
- What 3 words spring to mind when you think about Ceartas?
Equality, Community and Respect
- What do you value most about working with Ceartas?)
Ceartas support individuals to find their voice and to have as much control of their lives as possible. The groups that Ceartas run, provides an invaluable space for individuals to meet people who have been experiencing similar issues. Ceartas empowers individuals to express themselves. Ceartas is a very impactful service and hugely beneficial to the local community.
