Ceartas allows us as social workers to focus on the needs of the person. It encourages that way of thinking as sometimes other things get in the way. It’s a big thing moving someone into care, I take it really seriously, I know what it means for people and part of taking it seriously means bringing in advocacy.

User Involvement

We truly believe that the people we work with have a wealth of experience when it comes to services so with this in mind Ceartas developed a programme of service user involvement.

A group was formed (STILL GAME) which was about helping individuals become more confident about getting what they want and having more control over their lives.  Ceartas worked alongside Heartfelt, a user led organisation, which helps other organisations implement and maintain user involvement. We feel that by working alongside Heartfelt we genuinely began to look on user involvement in a way that is real and gives service users a chance to get truly involved in Ceartas.

Still Game now meets regularly every month and has planned a programme around the things that they would like to see changed or developed within Ceartas. We hope that by attending the group people will learn ways to speak up, take control over things in their life and how to influence social care services including our own.

Our work has also been recognised by the Scottish Consortium for Learning Disability for good practice, and the consortium are keen to remain updated on our work and assist in raising its profile both at a local and national level.
