29 July, 2015Get Onside gets a mention in Parliament!
14 August, 2015The Get Onside Rugby Course is about helping young people who use or may use social work services to develop Confidence and think about Choice, Control, Decision Making and how to make a better life whilst taking part in a programme of Rugby activities
The course takes place once a week over a seven week period and is essentially a “Game of Two Halves”. The first half is in a class room setting where individuals talk and get involved in activities centred around key themes such as; Decision Making, Confidence, Choice, Control , Self-Directed Support, Advocacy and what makes a good life. Individuals are then encouraged to think about how they might take more control over their lives to make it better.
The second half is on the rugby pitch where participants will take part in an inclusive, exciting, enjoyable and safe coaching programme of rugby activities that are suitable for a wide range of abilities. Participants will work individually and as a team taking part in activities which are designed to reinforce some of the key themes, skills and learning which takes place in the class.
It is designed to help give confidence to those who currently passively receive services to become more involved in actively determining what those social work services are and how Self Directed Support and Advocacy Services support this.
Get Onside is delivered by the Shine Partnership which consists of 4 organisations (Ceartas, Hansel, C-Change and Heartfelt). Rugby Coaching Activities and facilities are provided by Murrayfield Wanderers Rugby Club.
