ABI Cafe took place again on Thursday 3rd May with everyone making preparations for the ABI Seminar on 17th May.   The Group thought about what things they hoped that people would get out of the day.  They hope that people will understand more about the long term effects of brain injury, eg memory loss, change of lifestyle, etc.  They hope that professionals will understand more about the effects of brain injury, eg epilepsy.  They want people to understand that it's often a hidden disability which can cause frustrations and misunderstandings.  They want more people to know where to get help, info and advice on brain injury – especially once they are discharged from hospital.

We also asked those who came to ABI Cafe what they thought of the service.  One encouraging comment seemed to sum up the importance of this group . . . "We have found out more info about access to support agencies for ABI in the last 30 mins than we have in the last three years since the stroke happened."  (Lorraine)

Everyone is looking forward to the Seminar being run by Ceartas and Headway on 17th May and hopes that it will indeed raise awareness of ABI in the area.  ABI Seminar, Thursday 17 May from 2-4pm, McGregor House, 10 Donaldson Cres, Kirkintilloch.  Book by phone 0141 775 0433 or by emailing pthomson@ceartas.org.uk
