The Shine Partnership - Logo 1

The Shine Partnership are a multi-partnership agency made up of 4 organisations – Ceartas, Hansel, C-Change and Heartfelt. Shine work alongside the Scottish Government and 7 local authorities across Scotland, to ensure people who use services, families and carers are at the heart of telling others about Self-Directed Support.

The Shine Partnership’s key mission is to equip people to understand their rights within the new SDS legislation, become well informed, find their voice and become active participants in implementing self-directed supports across Scotland

The way in which Shine do this is by delivering presentations, hosting workshops throughout Scotland, and developing materials to inform others about Self-Directed Support, all with the help of the people who use it.

We have some amazing stories about how using SDS has changed peoples lives which can be extremely powerful in telling others about the benefits of SDS

“Using Self-Directed (SDS) has made a big difference to my life. I know get to choose the right support for me and do the things I choose to do. I can now lead a life which other people may take for granted” Holly Millar

“After Train the Trainers I felt good because in the past I would not be able to talk in a big group. My confidence has really grown since having more control over my support and I look forward to doing this again” Bruce Stewart

 Self-Directed Support Legislation

Social Care (Self-Directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013

The Social Care (Self-Directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013 was implemented on 1st of April 2014. It is now every Council’s legal duty to offer the four Self Directed Support options as part of the assessment, support planning and review process.

The Self-Directed Support options will be available to anyone (child, adult or older person) who has been assessed as eligible to receive support to meet their needs and achieve their outcomes that have been identified in their personalised support plan
