Ceartas allows us as social workers to focus on the needs of the person. It encourages that way of thinking as sometimes other things get in the way. It’s a big thing moving someone into care, I take it really seriously, I know what it means for people and part of taking it seriously means bringing in advocacy.

Services

Ceartas deliver a variety of services but with one common objective that is to raise awareness of advocacy and enable individuals to access our support at the appropriate time.

Below is a recent example of how a couple became know to Ceartas upon a chance meeting and have since been involved in our service at every level. In order to protect the couple’s identity their names have been changed.

Mr & Mrs Martin became known to Ceartas after dropping into the office one day for some information. Following this meeting Mr & Mrs Martin have since attended our Dementia Information and Support Group and De Café meetings.

During their attendance at one of the Dementia Information and Support Group meetings it became apparent of the strain that the diagnosis was placing on Mr & Mrs Martin. During the “Access to Services Week” the couple were particularly interested in the Day Care and Respite facilities available in East Dunbartonshire.

This prompted Mrs Martin to request a Social Work assessment for Mr Martin in order to access these services. However, there was a long delay in the allocation of a Social Worker which delayed the process for Day Care and Respite facilities.

With the support of Ceartas Mr Martin was able to express his need for Day Care services and have someone to liaise with the Social Work department on his behalf. Since their initial meeting with Ceartas Mr & Mrs Martin have attended both our dementia groups, accessed advocacy which resulted in Mr Martin accessing local Day Care and Homecare services and regularly consulting Ceartas for information and advocacy support.

We hope that this story illustrates why we offer a variety of services, if you want to find out more then take a look around our website or of course, get in touch.
