De Café is supportive the staff make you feel at home. We quickly realised and appreciated that it wasn’t just a cuppa and chat but it was also very informative about Ceartas. We all have troubles and worries but for that hour and a half at De Café you can forget everything else when you are talking to someone. It is an open house for people with dementia and their carers and is a valuable service.

Staff Team

We are a team of advocates, info workers, user involvement workers and not forgetting those who have to work behind the scenes to make stuff happen on time and on budget!

There are eight of us at the moment working from our offices in Kirkintilloch.

Our passion is for making sure the people we work for get the right support at the right time. As well as all older people at present our funding allows us to work with a variety of people aged 16 and over including individuals with mental health issues, dementia, learning disability, acquired brain injury, physical disability, autism and sensory impairment. To do our work we get alongside people and either advocate for the person or support them to speak up for themselves in a variety of meetings from social work reviews to tribunals.

At times it’s not simple so we need to have a good knowledge of legislation as well as local health and social work procedures but the most important thing is to be skilled in working with people.

We like to think that everything we do has an impact – we might not always be able to get you what you want but we always say what you want us to say, challenge when we need to and make sure everything is explained fully to you in the terms you understand. We’re happiest when our work is creating positive changes for our service users.

If you need or think you might need advocacy support then we’d love to meet- we’ll ask you what you’re trying to achieve and then we’ll work with you or if we are unable to, then we will point you in the right direction. But don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Here is a picture of some of our staff, we will update this when we can get everyone together for another photo.
