Board Members
Don't be intimidated by the title, they aren't that bad! All members of Ceartas have the opportunity to stand for election to the board of management and thankfully a good number have done just that and become directors for the organisation.
Day to day management is delegated to staff but "the board" are het for making sure things are done right and legally and making sure that the organisation is running in agreement with the wishes of the wider membership.
The board has a mix of experience including knowledge of using services, caring, financial management, voluntary sector development, charity management, personnel and fundraising.
The Board’s work includes making sure that people using the services of Ceartas receive a high quality service; they also make sure reports are written to our funders and that we comply with other agencies like OSCR, Companies House and Disclosure Scotland to name but a few.
These things are an important part of the work that the board does but this doesn’t mean that being a director is just a job for “the professionals”. To make sure that all aspects of the work that Ceartas does are covered it is important that we have directors who have actual experience of using services and this can be as a carer, service user or any individual with an interest in our work.
All directors are volunteers and therefore give their time freely to support the running of Ceartas. The directors are responsible for the overall running of the charity and meet together on a regular basis throughout the year (at least every 8 weeks) they do this in order to keep up to date with what is happening and ensure that the organisation is operating correctly.
Governance, strategic management and contract compliance may not sound exciting but it is an essential role and without our volunteers on board the organisation simply wouldn’t function. Thanks guys!
